Tending Tomorrow Farm

no-till

We avoid tilling the land as much as possible, and are working toward a no dig system where we are focused on adding material to the soil more than we are tilling, flipping, digging or even hoeing.

Tillage disrupts the soil structure and the life in the soil which is essential for growing crops. Communities of microbes and micro-organisms in the soil are responsible for distributing inert compounds that plants need to photosynthesize.

We don’t till the land because tillage not only requires fossil fueled machinery, but releases the stored carbon from the soil back into the atmosphere.
